The method of the present invention comprises the following steps: preparing standard solutions of different concentrations of 1,2-hexanediol, and then detecting the standard solutions using gas chromatography to determine the linear relationship between the concentration and peak area of 1,2-hexanediol; Prepare a sample solution by preprocessing cosmetics, detect the sample solution using the same gas chromatography method, and quantitatively calculate the content of 1,2-hexanediol in cosmetics using an external standard method. The gas chromatography method uses a FID flame detector with hydrogen and air as auxiliary gases, and a polyethylene glycol capillary column as the chromatographic column. The method of the present invention has simple operation and calculation, good precision, high sensitivity, high recovery rate, good reproducibility, and good linear fitting. The correlation coefficient of the standard curve reaches above 0.999, which is suitable for the detection and analysis of most cosmetics containing 1,2-hexanediol in the market.
